SSGT John D. Linde

Staff Sgt. John D. Linde, 30, was a military police noncommissioned officer assigned to 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (LI).

A native of New York City, Linde enlisted in the Army in October 1996 and trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. His first assignment was with the 984th Military Police Company at Fort Carson, Colo.

He was assigned to the Military Police Activity at Fort Belvoir, Va., in August 2002 where he served until being reassigned to the 10th Mountain Division (LI) in November 2004.

Linde previously deployed to Iraq from August 2005 to July 2006. He also served in Bosnia-Herzegovina from February 2000 to September 2000.

Linde’s military education includes the Basic Noncommissioned Officer Course, Warrior Leader Course, Combat Life Saver Course and the Special Reaction Team Training Course.

His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal and the Combat Action Badge.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters and father.
